9/30/16

Dear McKelvie Families ~

Fall has arrived!  Just a quick reminder that students will need to start wearing layers (hoodies or jackets) to school.  As the weather gets colder, the students seem to like the outdoors less and less.   As a result, wearing layers will help to keep them warm at recess.

It was a fast, but terrific week at McKelvie.  Below are this week’s updates:

MSN Names McKelvie Top School
A big thank you to the families who saw a recent MSN report on McKelvie being named a top school in NH.  Click HERE for the article.

Astronaut to Visit McKelvie
We have been given an AMAZING opportunity to have Dr. Lee Morin, a NASA Astronaut, give an assembly to the students at McKelvie on October 13th.  Dr. Morin grew up in Manchester, NH and graduated from West High School and UNH, before becoming an astronaut.   He travelled in space on the STS-110 Atlantis, worked on the International Space Station, and performed spacewalks.

Before School Program - Reminder
A reminder that access to the Before School Program is for students who have registered for a $65 fee.  If you elect not to participate, drop off is no earlier than 8:20 at the front.  Please do not drop off by the playground.

Destination Imagination

Anyone still interested in participating in Destination Imagination this year must register their child by Thursday, October 6th with our DI Coordinator.  To learn more about the program and how to provide your child with this enrichment opportunity, please contact  Marie Russell at bedfordrocksdi@gmail.com.

World Language Club
The World Language Club has been meeting in September and have completed a bulletin board about "Why Learn a World Language.  Check out their bulletin board on the second floor and read the reasons the students came up with as to why it's important to learn another language. Click HERE for their group photo!

A Message From PTG
Help the PTG continue to bring exciting programs to our schools like TIGER (Theater Integrating Guidance, Education, and Responsibility) Anti-Bullying Presentation coming in October for McKelvie students. This powerful and exciting program is designed to help children, schools, parents, and communities deal proactively and positively with social issues and concerns facing children in schools today. These programs cannot happen without the support from parents and teachers in the Bedford community. There is still time to help, simply click on this link to make a donation via credit card or PayPal, or send in a check payable to Bedford PTG in an enveloped marked “PTG Support” with your name, email address and child’s school. Bedford PTG appreciates your support.
DID YOU KNOW that the PTG receives 40% of the sales from our Gifts, Wrap & More Fundraiser? You will find quality wrapping paper, delicious snacks, gifts, gadgets and more through Meadow Farms. This fundraiser ends Monday, October 3rd and ALL proceeds go right back into our schools. Click Here to start shopping. If you’d like to support the PTG but don’t need wrapping paper feel free to make a straight donation at www.bedfordptg.org
