On Thursday, we had our annual Memorial Day assembly.  I must say that the students were OUTSTANDING!  I was so proud of them and all of the faculty who helped to put together this meaningful assembly.  Special thanks to our student leaders: Charlie Cariello, Jacob Redmen, Dara Brown, Hannah Duffy, Ayeza Shah, Sofia Destefano, Sean Guillory, and Matthew Santorsa!

BHS Celebrates a Decade
Come to Bulldog Stadium on Saturday, June 3rd and celebrate Bedford High School's 10 year anniversary! "Bulldogfest" is a free event open to the entire community that will feature BHS alumni that are now professional musicians, food trucks, artist vendors, face painting, lawn games and even Joppa Hill! Whether it's raining or shining that day, be at BHS to celebrate 10 Years of Awesome!

Special Education Update
The NH Special Education Procedural Safeguards Handbook was recently updated to reflect changes in the 3/25/17 revisions to the NH Rules for the Education of Children with Disabilities. Last Day of School
Just a reminder that the last day of school is Monday, June 19th.  Students will be dismissed at 1:15pm.  There is NO after school program that day.

Homework Club
The last day for Homework Club will be on Thursday, June 9th.

Camp Invention
Does your child like to take things apart, and design, color and create? Are you interested in unlocking your child's potential this summer?  Camp Invention may be a great fit.  This year's camp will be held at McKelvie Middle School July 10 - July 14 from 8:30 am - 3:00 PM. Camp Invention is the only nationally acclaimed summer enrichment day experience for children entering grades K through 6th Grade taught by certified teachers. The talent show will be held on Wednesday, June 7th at 6:00 pm.  Doors will open at 5:45, and tickets for ice cream sundaes and root beer floats will be available for $3.00 each, to be served during intermission.  Bottled water will be available for $1.00.

Kits are available for students enteringgrades K-8. Order forms will be coming home in backpacks by May 19th. You can also order online at www.shopttkits.com and enter the account number below for the school your child will be at in the fall.

Dear McKelvie Families ~

There are exactly 19 days left of school!  This year has simply flown by and I am amazed at how quickly it passed.  There are numerous  activities and events between now and the end of the year. I will continue to keep you informed about each of them.  It continues to be a pleasure to watch the extraordinary growth of your kids - they are terrific!  Below are the notes for this week:

Spring Concert Tonight!
Join us at the BHS Theater tonight for our Spring Concert.  The chorus starts at 6:30pm and the band begins at 7:30pm.  Admission is free.

BeBOLD Speaker Series
A reminder that on Monday, May 22nd from 7pm to 8pm are three Bedford MD’s to talk about NH’s drug and alcohol crisis.  Click HERE for the details.

Grandparents’ Day
Wow! If you came by McKelvie this morning, you saw that we had a FULL house of grandparents.  It was an amazing morning sponsored by both the school and the Bedford PTG. Memorial Day Speaker Needed - HELP WANTED
Each year McKelvie holds a Memorial Day Assembly where the students learn about the importance of Memorial Day.  If you or someone you know might be willing to speak to our students, please contact me.  The talk usually takes between 3-5 minutes and is a personal reflection on what Memorial Day means to them.

Teacher Workshop Day
Next Friday, May 26th is a Teacher Workshop Day.  As a result, there is NO SCHOOL for students that day.

McKelvie Reads A Lot! This Lego creation was put together by various students that come to the McKelvie Library. This is just a friendly reminder to have your child(ren) check their Destiny Library account. Your child(ren) can do this easily to see what is checked out, when their library material(s) are due back, as well as what holds have been placed and their status. Just head to the MIS Library webpage, click on the tab "Library Online Catalog," have your child(ren) log in using their student ID number and password, and then have them click on the "My Info" option at the top of the page. This will give them the details they need regarding materials checked out or on hold.

Dear McKelvie Families ~

There are SO MANY amazing things happening at McKelvie right now!  Last evening was our Faculty Basketball game, tonight and tomorrow is the school play, Alice In Wonderland, and Sunday is Mother’s Day.  I am so proud of our school and students right now - it is simply an amazing community!  Below are this week’s notes:

TONIGHT at 7pm is the opening show!  Tickets are $5 each or $20 for a family.  If you can’t make it tonight, join us on Saturday at 1pm or 6pm.  This is going to be a fun musical!

Hoops for Hounds
A HUGE thank you to our Community Action Team for last evening’s event.  We raised over $3000.00 to help those families in need of a service dog.  Also - a HUGE thank you to Jodi Parsons and Michael Crowell for their leadership in organizing this event!

BeBold Speaker Event
Do you or your child have a sports injury and need pain medication?  Do you know what questions your doctor should be asking you about pain medications and pain management?  What kinds of substance abuse cases are our Doc’s seeing especially involving teens?  Is alcohol or marijuana a problem?  Has anything changed regarding pain meds and management?  YOU need to know this information to keep you and your family healthy and safe.  Learn about these topics and more at BeBOLD’s (Bedford - Building Our Lives Drug-free) monthly Speaker Series Event on Monday, May 22nd from 7-8pm at the Bedford Public Library in the McAllaster Room.  

The three panelists include:
  • Kevin Desrosiers, MD, Adult Intensive Care Physician and Medical Director of Performance Improvement for the Elliot Health System.
  • Greg Baxter, MD, Emergency Medicine, Senior VP of Medical Affairs & Chief Medical Officer of Elliot Health System.
  • Steve Loosigian, DO, Director of the Hospitalist Program and President of Medical Staff at Elliot Health System.

Bicycle Rodeo
The Bedford Police and Fire Departments will be hosting their annual Bicycle Rodeo on June 3 from 10:00 to 2:00 in the parking lot of the Bedford Mall. Police and Fire Department personnel will be on hand to provide bicycle and motorcycle demonstrations while educating participants about bicycle safety.

Destination Imagination
The Bedford DI Global Finals teams are hosting a fundraiser at Chipotle next Tuesday, May 16th.  Chipotle will be donating all day from when they open at 11am.  Be sure to tell the cashier you are there for the fundraiser. No flyer required.  Thank you for your support.

From the Library
The Great Stone Face Statewide winner is... Roller Girl by Victoria Jamieson! This graphic novel is a 2016 Newbury Honor winner and has been extremely popular with our McKelvie readers! There were a total of 93 schools who participated (including McKelvie) with 5,857 votes cast! Roller Girl received 695 votes. A Night Divided by Jennifer A. Nielsen came in 2nd place with 684 votes and in 3rd place statewide was Pax by Sara Pennypacker. This titled received 655 votes. The 2017-2018 Great Stone Face List was just released and we are in the process of acquiring the nominees now for our McKelvie Library!

We’re excited to invite you to a PTG Community Night at the New Hampshire Fisher Cats as they take on the Portland Sea Dogs on Thursday, May 25th at 6:35p.m.. Atlas Fireworks following the game and no school on Friday! Join us for some great family fun at the ballpark!! Tickets are only $9/per person (regularly $12/pp). Celebration

Essay Contest Winners!
Congratulations to the finalists in the Bedford Historical Society's annual essay contest!  Fifth-grade Writers' Group students wrote essays about "How My Ancestors Have Impacted My Life".  Allison Seidel, Maggie Roberts, Caitlin Fitzgerald, Nick Ferrari, Kaylie Tennant and Jack Toolin earned honorable mention certificates. Lindsey Healey earned 3rd place, Hannah Duffy earned 2nd place and Ella Navarro earned lst place. The students shared their essays and were honored at a celebration on May 9th. Student Council is pleased to announce its annual school-wide talent show.  Tryouts for this year’s highly-anticipated show will be Tuesday, May 16th from 3:30 to 5:00.  Accepted acts will be posted on the cafeteria doors by lunch-time on Friday, May 19th.  A dress rehearsal for the show will be held in the cafeteria on Tuesday, June 6th from 3:30 - 5:00 pm. The show is Wednesday, June 7th at 6 pm.
