Dear McKelvie Families~

First and foremost, thank you for the outpouring of support we have received regarding the work that was done to kick off Remote Learning. Given we have never done this before, we are looking for parent feedback as to how the process is going. Please take 5 minutes to fill out a parent survey by clicking the link below. Fill out one form for each child you have at McKelvie, i.e., if you have 2 kids here, fill it out twice. I would LOVE 100% parent participation!

PARENT SURVEY

Snowman Contest:
Thank you to McKelvie Families for sharing your snowmen pictures with us. We had so much fun looking at all of the creations that students made! We had almost 200 snowmen submissions. Below you will find a compilation of a few of the submissions that we received. We randomly selected 4 winners from all of the submissions. The winners are the following:

Ethan in Mrs. Kurtz's classroom
Meredith in Mrs. Burke's classroom
Jacob in Mrs. Correia's classroom
Ethan in Mrs. Parnell's classroom
(We will reach out to winners in a separate email.)

Click HERE to see a movie of some of the snowman entries!

Happy Friday, McKelvie! Week 1 of Remote Learning is done. Be proud of yourselves!

I know many of you have emailed about overdue book(s). I appreciate your concern. Please just keep them safe and we will work on returning them in the future. Unfortunately, at this time we are unable to check out print books right now but please be sure to visit the McKelvie Library website and my blog to see how to check out audiobooks, eBooks, and Lightbox Books from the comfort of your home.

Click HERE to see my latest blog post. I would love to hear what students are reading for pleasure. Be sure to check the library blog often, as I will be providing updates throughout our time at home. HERE you will find a link to a LibGuide which I created to provide additional resources and opportunities for you to access during remote learning.

I miss seeing you all! Keep reading and listening to great books. Have a wonderful weekend and be sure to get outside and play! ~Mrs. Cote

Have a restful weekend and as always, email if you have questions or concerns.

03.20.20 Principal Notes

Dear McKelvie Families~

Beginning Monday, March 23rd, you and your child(ren) will receive a daily email from me that includes a video announcement as well as reminders and important links to support Remote Learning.

The McKelvie Remote Learning Page is where students and parents can find all of the online supports they will need, as well as their teachers' pod pages, in order to learn remotely. Students MUST log in using their school issued google accounts, not using parent or personal gmail accounts.

McKelvie Remote Learning Page

Once on the McKelvie Remote Learning page, students should click on their POD (right side of page) in order to access attendance and daily lessons.

Pod Landing Page (Sample for Cleghorn/Hayward)

Attendance:
STUDENTS will need to be logged into their school accounts, to fill out an attendance form EVERY DAY by 10:00am, that can be found on their POD teachers' landing page. They need to be logged into their SCHOOL account, not personal or parent google accounts.

If your child is sick and will not be remote learning for the day, DO NOT HAVE THEM FILL OUT THE FORM. Instead, a parent should call the attendance line at 472-3951 ext. 22111.

Assignments:
POD Assignments will be listed on POD landing pages on a daily basis. IA and World Language teachers are pushing all assignments out via Google Classroom and have already sent student invites.

Chromebooks:
If you find you need a school issued Chromebook, please email parsonsj@sau25.net, and we will facilitate a time for you to pick one up.

Breakfast/Lunch:

The breakfast and lunch grab-n-go is moving location beginning on Monday. The pickup will still be at the high school but is being moved to the High School Gymnasium entrance. Those doors are nearer the kitchen and make the logistics of delivery easier. If you’ve never been to that entrance, it’s at the back of the building. A sign will be along the sidewalk as it has been this week.

Expectations for Next Week:
I anticipate next week will be a time of transition for parents, students and teachers. If you have questions, reach out to the teachers or to me, and we will problem solve solutions.

3.15.20 Principal Notes

Dear McKelvie Families~

This past week has brought an unprecedented shift in how we educate our students.  Our district began preparing for the possibility of remote learning at the onset of COVID-19 arriving in the state of New Hampshire.  The McKelvie staff will continue to work diligently over this next week, to ensure our kids continue learning.

As the Governor announced today, all schools will remain closed until April 3rd.  Our teachers are putting together online lessons and activities that will go out to our students on a daily basis, beginning March 23rd.  For students who do not have Chromebooks or computers, we are coming up with a system to ensure everyone has the necessary technology to be able to learn remotely.  More information on Chromebooks/technology, will go out later this week.

Key Points:
1.  I will be sending emails to families throughout the week, so that parents know what the plan is for remote learning.
2.  When remote learning begins next week, teachers will be emailing parents and students on a daily basis, the lessons for the day.  More info to come.
3.  Unfortunately the Talent Show and Globetrotters Game are both postponed.  If/when they are rescheduled, I will let you know.  I am working to get refunds for the Globetrotters, in the event they cannot come back to Manchester this school year.
4.  If your child left something at school, please email your child's teacher, so we can have it brought down.  Call the school before coming in, to make sure the item is ready for pick-up.

As always, please email or call if you have any questions.  I hope all of our McKelvie families stay healthy in the coming weeks and wish you all well.  I truly cannot wait to see your kids again!

Have a good evening.

3.7.20 Principal Notes

Dear McKelvie Families~

It was wonderful having students back in the building this week!  With the up and down temperatures, students are leaving their coats, hats, etc. behind on the playground, and they end up in lost and found.  Please encourage your child to look in lost and found if you suspect they have lost some of their belongings.

Upcoming Events:

March 19th-Talent Show Make-Up in MIS Cafe at 6:00

Covid-19:
First off, I would like to thank the custodial staff, teachers, paraprofessionals, and lunch monitors for going above and beyond in keeping the building clean.  Just as a reminder, all lunch tables are being sterilized prior to each new group of students and all desks are being sterilized each evening.  Handrails and doorknobs are also being sterilized throughout the day.  I would also like to thank our nurses, Ruthanne Stefekos and Karen Freedman, for all of their work answering parent and student questions regarding the Covid-19 virus.

Students were shown two videos at McKelvie this week, one on how to properly sneeze/cough and the other on what Coronavirus is, in order to dispel some of the misconceptions I had been hearing from students.  I have linked the videos below, so that parents can talk with their children about Coronavirus.

HERE is a link to the Sneeze/Cough video.

HERE is a link to the Brainpop video on Coronavirus.

Feel free to call or email me if you have specific questions or concerns about Covid-19.

Library News:
Happy break McKelvie! The McKelvie Library was a very busy place this week. There were eight classes that came this week to build their reading stacks for vacation, as well as prepare for a March Madness reading activity which will begin for many classes after break. Students were exposed to books in a restaurant-like setting complete with reservations! Students were "served" various genres or formats of books during the tastings. They used their menus at the end of our time together to make a book selection(s) in preparation for their March Madness Book Tournament and to make sure that they had titles to dive into over break.

In addition to these classes, the library has been busy with students coming to relax and read, building with Keva Planks, using the cat's cradle strings, solving the many Rubik's Cubes we have, creating broken crayon art, creating with origami and putting together our latest community puzzle!

Can you believe that Brendan Sullivan found a "Golden Ticket" in August and then, right before vacation, was reading and found another "Golden Ticket"? Click HERE to see his picture. Note the face and title of the book he was looking at. :)

If you are traveling, have a safe trip! If you and your family are staying local, enjoy all that NH has to offer this time of year. Spring is coming...

Warm regards,
Mrs. Cote
