It is time to prepare for McKelvie Intermediate School's annual Move-A-Thon!! The Move-A-Thon event will take place on Thursday, October 24th (with a rain date of Friday, October 25th). The Move-A-Thon is an all-school event and our school's only fundraiser.

Classroom teachers talked with McKelvie students about the Move-A-Thon today and students are coming home with a packet of paperwork. Move-A-Thon paperwork can also be accessed at the McKelvie website HERE.

In brief, the MAT is a moving fundraiser. Parents register their child for one of our activity options. Once registered, students can begin asking family and friends to sponsor them in their activity by making a donation. Students will participate in their activity of choice for one hour during the school day on Thursday, 10/24. Students can win great prizes for their Move-A-Thon (MAT) participation!

We have created a short Parent Information Video that can be accessed HERE which will help to answer any MAT questions you might have.

NEW this year parents can create an online donation page through Fund Hub. This allows families to post this fundraiser on their social media platforms and for family and friends to make donations online. Access to set up the Fund Hub account is HERE.

Tripod Survey Information:
Between October 7th and October 25th, the district will administer the "Tripod Survey" to students in grades 2 – 12. This survey asks for the students' perspectives on our teaching practices. All survey responses are anonymous and confidential. The purpose is to use this feedback to help our professional staff continue to improve. This year, parents were able to provide permission for their child to take the survey through InfoSnap registration. If you opted your child out of the survey, please know that we will make other arrangements for him/her during the time that his/her class is taking the survey.

If you would like to view the surveys, please click on the links below.

Early Elementary (grades 1 & 2)

Secondary (grades 7 – 12)

Destination Imagination - Registration Now Open:
Registration is now open for Destination Imagination. New and returning students must complete this google form Registration closes on Friday October 4th, 2019. Destination Imagination is an extra curricular that relies on parent volunteers. There is no guarantee that your child will be placed on a team, but we work very hard to place every child who registers. For more info on this wonderful extracurricular program offered by our district, please check out www.nh-di.org or contact our coordinator, Marie Russell at bedfordrocksdi@gmail.com.

Strings Club:
There is still time to join the strings club!  The Bedford School District has partnered with the Manchester Community Music School in order to offer strings lessons K-8. Please click HERE to see a flyer about the program if your child is interested in playing a stringed instrument. The program is run by MCMS but lessons are at McKelvie and the strings club will be incorporated into our school concerts.

Library News:
Happy Saturday to the McKelvie Community! I hope this note finds you all well. The McKelvie Library remains a busy place. This week some 5th grade classes and I have been discussing what a "good fit book" means and using the analogy between books and shoes. I have been very impressed with the connections made between shoes and books. One student wrote, "You have to find a good fit book just like you have to find a good fitting pair of shoes." Click HERE to see the Post-It Note Thoughts Sign we created with one of the Brown/Correia Classes!

Congratulations to Andrea, a 6th grader, who located a "Golden Ticket." Click HERE to see Andrea and the 6th "Golden Ticket." She received a $5.00 gift card to Barnes & Noble.

Today we had a furry visitor at the McKelvie Library! Gus, a certified therapy dog, and his owner Barbara Sofield came to visit during the 5th and 6th grade recess times. Both students and staff were thrilled to visit with Gus! Click HERE to see Gus, Mrs. Sofield, and several 5th grade students visiting and reading. Gus and Mrs. Sofield will be making regular appearances on Fridays to the McKelvie Library this year.

Have a fabulous weekend! ~Mrs. Cote

Shopping Coordinator Update:
During October we will be having a BoxTop classroom competition. Clip your BoxTops plus download the app and scan your receipts, please make sure to use the “credit” option after you scan your receipt. Key in the teacher’s name and those will be included in the competition. You only need to key it in once and it will be saved for the next scan. If you want to split your credits, you can update the “classroom” every time you scan.

It only takes a few seconds and by scan it means take a quick picture with your smartphone. If you have trouble just put your receipt in the collection bin within 14 days and I will scan it for you. If you need help, please reach me at my email address amygaff9692@icloud.com.
