Dear McKelvie Families~

Important Traffic Update:
During PM dismissals, traffic is backing up on the County Rd. side of McKelvie, and cars are blocking traffic and the intersection. The Bedford Police Department has asked that parents picking up at the canopy (County Rd. side) do not block traffic. If a line is forming in the street, please circle back until you are able to pull into the lot. If you want to avoid this headache all together, the bus is a wonderful option!

Thank you PTG!!
A big focus this year at McKelvie is kindness and making connections with others. To help promote this message, the PTG sponsored Brian Williams, a youth motivational speaker, to put on an amazing all school assembly yesterday. Brian's message was that kindness can spread like a virus, and that all it takes is one random act of kindness to change someone's day. Next week, all students will be getting a Random Act of Kindness Checklist, and the hope is that all acts are completed in 15 days. Thank you to the PTG, for providing our kids with such a wonderful event! Scroll to the bottom of this week's notes after you read them, to see pics from yesterday's assembly and other school happenings!

Library News:
Hello McKelvie Families! It is official! All 29 classes have been to the McKelvie Library as of this afternoon for a library overview. Students have been busy browsing, checking out books and placing books on hold. 5th and 6th graders now know how to check their Destiny Library Account to see when books are due and to see if they have a hold ready! This is just a reminder that library materials have a two-week loan period and can be renewed as many times as needed, as long as another patron does not have a hold placed for the material. If a student would like to renew a book, please make sure that they bring it to the library to do so. 6th graders have been creating Collections in Destiny to keep track of the books they have read during the 19-20 school year! These "digital reading logs" are a great way to see images of the books they have completed.

The McKelvie library has been a very busy place during WIN times as well as during recess times, even when classes are being conducted. Click HERE to see students reading in the comfortable seating here.

Enjoy the pleasant weekend ahead. ~Mrs. Cote

Destination Imagination - Registration Now Open:
Registration is now open for Destination Imagination. New and returning students must complete this google form. Registration closes on Friday October 4th, 2019. Destination Imagination is an extra curricular that relies on parent volunteers. There is no guarantee that your child will be placed on a team, but we work very hard to place every child who registers. For more info on this wonderful extracurricular program offered by our district, please check out www.nh-di.org or contact our coordinator, Marie Russell at bedfordrocksdi@gmail.com. There will also be an Info Night on Thursday September 26th at 6.00pm at McKelvie Intermediate School, Rm 17. This is for all new parents K-12 who are interested in hearing more about the program.

MIS Kitchen News:
The breakfast program will be featuring a delicious and nutritious peaches ‘n cream smoothie. In season, sweet local peaches are perfectly paired with protein packed Greek vanilla yogurt and potassium rich, creamy bananas. In addition to breakfast combo meals, the kitchen will be offering a homemade peachy crumb breakfast bar. This lovely, healthy treat will keep you feeling full and satisfied with lots of long- lasting energy from whole grain complex carbohydrates. The beautiful yellow orange colored peach is low in calories & cholesterol and contains powerful vitamins A and C. It is naturally a great source of fiber. An amazing effect of fiber is that it helps the body have a slow, constant release of energy throughout the school day. Start the day off by fueling the body with everything it needs to be successful. Don't miss out on these healthy, wholesome NEW breakfast items.

For our lunch program, the kitchen will be hard at work preparing a tasty meal of homemade chicken or cheese quesadillas, warm fiesta corn, refried beans, salsa, sour cream, fresh fruit and milk. Quesadillas will be made with hearty whole grain tortillas, a cheese blend of mozzarella, cheddar and Monterey jack and the chicken will be seasoned with our own Tex-Mex spice blend. This meal will be featured on Friday, 9/27 so don’t miss out on a super delicious lunch with a Mexican flair!

Shopping Coordinator Update:
After 20 years, the Box Tops Program is changing to fit today's families. The new and improved Box Tops mobile app uses technology to scan your store receipt, find participating products and instantly add Box Tops to your school's earnings online. For the families that like to give back to the school, it will take a small change of habit. As coordinator, I have personally tried to scan the receipt from the grocery store as soon as I get the groceries unpacked and it seems to be working well. If you have trouble just put your receipt in the collection bin within 14 days and I will scan it for you. Remember, still clip any box tops on products and submit to the collection boxes with your classroom information. They are still worth $.10 each. Last year we reached our $1,000 goal and hoping to do that again in 2019-2020. Click HERE for the box top flyer.
