BSD Substitute Information Open House
Wednesday, March 6th from 9:00-11:00 AM
Superintendent’s Office (Board Room), 103 County Rd. Bedford

Have you ever considered substitute teaching in Bedford? If so, please join us for a chance to discuss this opportunity with principals from all levels in the district as well as Human Resources. Parents, community members and those interested in substitute teaching in our district are encouraged to attend. You can learn about the various substitute positions available, opportunities at each school, application procedure, qualifications and pay. This is a great opportunity to have all of your questions answered about subbing in our district. If you think you might like to be a part of the Bedford School District team, please join us on March 6th!

Evening Q&A with Dr. Dawn Huebner:
Join us for a 90-minute Q&A on Wednesday, March 13th at 6:30pm at McKelvie Intermediate School with Dr. Dawn Huebner, nationally recognized Psychologist, Parent Coach and author of award-winning mental health books for kids. Dr. Huebner is best known for her What to Do Guides - including What to Do When You Worry Too Much and Outsmarting Worry - which have sold over 1 million copies. Rather than giving a one-size-fits-all talk, Dr. Huebner will be answering audience questions about how to recognize anxiety in kids, how to respond to it, and how to build skills to better manage it. Questions can be submitted in advance, written on a note card that evening (to maintain anonymity) or asked live. This is not a group therapy session but instead an informative Q&A that will leave you with a clearer understanding of anxiety, what parents do that inadvertently feeds it, and how to help your child get on the path to defeating it.

To submit a question for Dr. Huebner in advance, email Priscilla McGinty, School Counselor at McKelvie Intermediate School at mcgintyp@sau25.net, or your child's School Counselor.

--Boy Scouts of America has changed the name of their main scouting program to Scouts BSA and with this change is now including the establishment of Troops specifically for girls being led by girls.

--The Bedford Rotary Club, which is the charter organization sponsoring Bedford Boy Scout Troop 5, is founding a new Scouts BSA Troop 5 for girls in Bedford.

--Girls at least 11 years of age but not yet 18 who enjoy outdoor adventure, camping and hiking, community service, leadership, and have a pioneering spirit are encouraged to join.

--Scouts BSA is not coed. The girls will form a new troop with their own patrols and Scout leadership separate from the boys.

--Meeting times and places, programs and activities, and some of the adult leaders and shared Troop Committee will be the same as for Boy Scout Troop 5.

--Bedford Troop 5 is a well-established and highly successful troop in existence since 1992, currently has 77 registered Scouts, 27 registered adult leaders, and has seen 55 Scouts earn the rank of Eagle.

--The new Scouts BSA Troop 5 for girls will receive strong support and guidance toward success from the many dedicated and experienced adult volunteer Scout leaders and the well-established Troop 5 committee.
