11.2.18 Principal Notes

Dear McKelvie Families ~

What a terrific week we had at McKelvie!  The kids and staff looked terrific in their costumes on Wednesday!  It's hard to believe the first quarter has ended and November is upon us!  Grades closed today and report cards will be available online on November 9th.  Here are the notes for this week:

NO SCHOOL 11/6, 11/12, and 11/21-11/23
A reminder that there is no school next Tuesday, November 6th as it is voting day and also on Monday, November 12th in observance of Veteran’s Day.  Thanksgiving break is from November 21st through November 23rd.

Intramurals Quarter 2
Intramural sign ups begin tonight at 5:00pm.  Click HERE for a list of offerings and to register.  Registration closes on Friday, November 9th or when activities fill up.

Q1 Conferences
Quarter 1 conferences begin next week and go until November 16th.  Each family is invited to conference with your child’s teacher during these next few weeks. This is an excellent time to check in on academic progress and get a sense of how your child is learning. Please contact your child’s teacher to schedule a conference if you have not already signed up for one.

Report Cards/Grading
Grades closed today and report cards will be available online on November 9th. Reading and Writing have been combined into one Language Arts category for this year on the report card and in Powerschool.  Writing is still listed in the parent portal but no grades are put in this category.  Powerschool will not allow us to remove the category at this time.

Move-A-Thon Prizes and Wrap Up Assembly:
The Move-A-Thon Prize Assembly will be on Monday, November 19th. Please be sure to get any remaining fundraising dollars turned in to the school next week. Students will be able to enter Move-A-Thon raffle tickets in for a chance to win the gift basket of their choice during lunches the week of November 13th.

Library News:
I cannot believe it is November! Many classes and individual readers continue to use the McKelvie Library to learn, work collaboratively and read for pleasure. Click HERE to see students using the space for book clubs during the school day!

Congratulations to our 2nd Search Slip winner of the year! 5th grader, Luciana, along with MANY others, entered our monthly library raffle by filling out a Search Slip with information regarding the book they are looking for in the McKelvie Library. Each month all of the Search Slips are collected and one winner is drawn from all of the entries for the month. Click HERE to see Luciana and the envelope containing a gift certificate for a sweet treat! Enjoy!

Our first puzzle of the year has been completed (minus one missing piece). This was a great collaborative effort by many! Please click HERE to see the puzzle before Mod Podge!
Enjoy the extra hour on Sunday! ~Mrs. Cote

Box Tops:
Thank you students and parents!!! We have collected 2,321 box tops through October 29th. Box Tops 4 Education will be sending McKelvie a check for $232.10. We are 23% towards our goal. Not bad for two months of collecting. Starting November 1st, we are going to have a classroom contest for the most submissions prior to the winter break. Make sure to give your homeroom teacher your submissions and we will keep a tally to announce the winning classroom in December. Please see the attached flyer HERE for more detail.
