Dear McKelvie Families ~

Next week is our last full week of school. I have been grateful for the cooler weather given how late we are going in June. I know that these last days can be stressful. My hope is that we maintain a routine that keeps kids focused and engaged. Thank YOU for all that you do to assist and affirm these efforts on our behalf. Below are this week’s notes:

Music & Technology Make an Impact
A huge thank you to Heather Noonan and the PTG for bringing award winning composer, producer, and recording artist Brent Daniels to McKelvie for a 5th grade Music Technology Show. Brent taught the students about the relationship between different technologies we have access to and the creation of music with sounds. With the help of our 5th grade volunteers, Brent composed an original song that kept students and adults singing and humming for the rest of the day!

Grade 6 Science Fair
Click HERE to see Mrs. Ouellette and her students as they prepared to present their Science Fair Projects. Both students and teachers worked hard to put together this day!

Grade 5 Guest Speaker

From the Library
Calling back all McKelvie Library Materials! It is that time of the school year when all library materials need to be turned in. Your child knows how to access his/her library account to see what is checked out. ALL materials are due back this Wednesday, June 13th! Thank you in advance for your help with this!

A "Lunch and Learn" session will be held on Friday, June 15th for all interested 5th & 6th grade students. Carla Ferreira, Assistant Librarian at the Bedford Public Library Children's Department, will be here to discuss the summer reading program as well as the opportunity to become a Jr. Librarian. She will be holding 4 sessions during lunch times. Interested students wil be allowed to carry their lunch from the cafeteria or bring their lunch to the library to listen and learn! We hope to see many readers at this event!

This year on Monday, June 18th and Tuesday, June 19th, we will be holding our first ever Summer Book Swap! This will help update bookshelves at home and keep kiddos reading over the summer! On Thursday, June 14th and Friday, June 15th, students will be able to bring in 1-2 gently used, grade level appropriate books to have at the swap. In exchange for the books, the students will receive a blue ticket for each book brought in for the swap. Beginning on Monday, June 18th, students can come with their blue tickets to exchange it/them for a book or two! This will hopefully get them excited about reading over the summer months! Thank you in advance for your support as we try our first McKelvie Summer Book Swap.
