6.1.18

Dear McKelvie Families ~

Today is June 1st and the reality of summer has arrived! I think it is a group effort to keep our eyes on the ball and remain productive for the month. The teachers have many lessons and field trips as well as end-of-year activities planned. We will be working hard to keep focus on academics (with some fund sprinkled in, of course). Below are the notes for this week!

Last Day of School
June 20th. Dismissal at 1:15 sharp. No After School Program. No After School Activities.

Homework Club
Last Day of Homework Club is Wednesday, June 13th.

Student Council Hosts Movie Night
The McKelvie Student Council is hosting The Black Panther on Wednesday, June 13th from 3:30pm to 6pm. Tickets are $2 with snacks and drinks at $1 each. Click HERE for more information. Permission slip required.

McKelvie Kitchen News
The kitchen has some new & exciting lunches on the menu next week so come down and check them out!

BBQ Day, Tuesday June 5th - BBQ chicken drumsticks, our own homemade corn bread and homemade potato salad, fresh steamed corn on the cob, watermelon and milk.

Build Your Own Burrito Bowl, Friday June 8th - This popular lunch is back! Fill your bowl with brown rice, Tex-Mex flavored chicken, cilantro lime black beans, homemade pico de gallo, sliced avocado, some additional veggie options to choose from, fresh fruit and milk.

From the Library
Congrats to 6th grader Ally Churbuck from Mrs. Allen's homeroom! She was the 9th "Search Slip" winner for the month of May. Ally had her "Search Slip" filled out correctly and entered it into the monthly drawing. She won a $5.00 gift certificate to put towards a treat at a local ice cream establishment. Enjoy a cool treat, Ally!

We are going to hold our first annual Summer Book Swap for students @ the McKelvie Library on June 18th & 19th. Be thinking of 1 or 2 gently used, grade level appropriate, books that you might be able to send in. Stay tuned for further information coming next Friday.

A "Lunch and Learn" session will be held on Friday, June 15th for all interested 5 & 6 grade students. Carla Ferreira, Assistant Librarian at the Bedford Public Library Children's Department, will be here to discuss the summer reading program as well as the opportunity to become a Jr. Librarian. She will be having 4 sessions during lunch times. Interested students will be allowed to carry their lunch from the cafeteria or bring their lunch to the library to listen and learn!

BHS Girls’ Basketball Clinic
The BHS girls’ basketball team will be hosting a series of skills clinics on Thursday evenings in July. (The first one is actually on June 28th.) The clinics are for any girls entering 3rd through 9th grade and no basketball experience is required. Please see THIS FLYER for more information.
Have a GREAT weekend,
