Dear McKelvie Families ~

We had Pi day with the 6th grade students this week.  Our Math Excel students taught their peers the concept of Pi.  As is tradition, successful understanding of the concept ended with a piece of their favorite pie.  A BIG thank you to Mr. Donahue for organizing this wonderful activity!

Last Day of School now June 20
The Superintendent announced at Monday's Board Meeting that the last day of school for students is June 20 (as of now). He had a conversation with the NHDOE about the two days we missed school due to the Halloween wind storm this year. Given the circumstances of the storm and our school calendar, we will not have to have students make up those two days at the end of the year.

From the Library
A big thank you to the students, parents/guardians, and staff members who were able to attend the rescheduled McKelvie Meets @ the Movies event. Thank you also to the McKelvie Student Council for helping with the movie promotion. I think all would agree that the Disney production of A Wrinkle in Time was a great modern interpretation of the 1963 Newbury Award winner! There were numerous differences so it was interesting to compare the movie and the book.

Our 6th "Search Slip" raffle was held for the month of February. The "Search Slips" are filled out with the title of the book, the author's last name, and the call number. This is done when students are looking for a book using the online catalog. The student then has an opportunity to write his/her name on the back of the "Search Slip" and enter a monthly raffle! February's raffle winner was from Ms. Francis' homeroom. Neel Majmundar received a $5.00 gift certificate to a local ice cream establishment. Congrats!

Beginning on Monday, April 9th, during National Library Week 2018, students will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite Great Stone Face Nominee. Students statewide, in grades 4-6, have an opportunity to vote. Students are encouraged to read two or more of the 20 nominees before voting. Click HERE to access a Google Slides presentation of the 20 nominees. Students at McKelvie will have access to a Google Form voting ballot to cast their vote. The McKelvie winner will be announced on Monday, April 16th. The statewide winner will be announced during the month of May. Happy reading!

Have a great weekend!
