1.12.18

Dear McKelvie Families ~

I spent some time walking through classrooms this week.  I want you to know that I saw amazing things happening.  In particular, I sat in on a group of students doing “Book Talks.”  It was inspiring to watch your children present a book to their peers using key strategies (eye contact, voice projection, maintaining peer attention).  These same students received feedback and answered questions.  I was impressed with both the content they were sharing and the confidence they mustered to present.  I am proud of our students and our school!

NO SCHOOL
There is no school on Monday, January 15th in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

You Be the Chemist Club - NEW
Is your child interested in science and chemistry.  If so, they can join our Chemistry Club.  This club will be run by Sudha Komma and her daughter Manogna.  It will take place on Tuesdays from 3:30 to 4:30 with a start date of February 6th.  Click HERE to submit a permission slip.

Snow Day Lunch Info./Announcements
Our district’s Food Service Director (Emily Murphy) has decided to provide an announcement on the SAU’s website (www.sau25.net) in the District News box, which will detail, by school, what the hot lunch offering will be the day following the snow day.  This information will be available the day of the snow day.

From the Library
The PTG Bulldog is currently visiting McKelvie! Click HERE and HERE to see images of the beautifully painted bulldog. The bulldog was creatively designed and painted by Kathy Ang. Currently, he is without a name. In the library, there are name suggestion slips for students and staff to write a possible name for the PTG to consider. Stop by to see this hand painted mascot representing all six schools in our community!

Thank you to the PTG for sponsoring the Book Fair! The book fair was held during the second full week in December and was a success. Regina Dixon kindly delivered the $75.00 profit from the "All for Books" proceeds to the McKelvie Library this week. Those proceeds will be spent on recently published titles for the school library. Thank you again to the PTG for the donation and for helping to encourage reading!

Please be sure to check out Flipster if you have not already! This is the platform we use for our digital periodicals. The link is on the "Digital Resources tab" via the McKelvie Library site.
