5.5.17

Dear McKelvie Families ~

In case you did not know, this week was Teacher Appreciation Week.  The Bedford PTG went above and beyond the call of duty!  We are so grateful!  A HUGE thank you to Sue Jennato and many, many others for their leadership and planning this week.  Also - a BIG thank you to the following businesses who donated: TCBY, Puritan Backroom, Sol Power Yoga, Therapy Design for You, Yankee Candle, and Lindt Chocolate.  THANK YOU!

Information

Alice In Wonderland!
McKelvie cordially invites you to attend the school's performance of Alice In Wonderland Jr on May 12th and 13th at McKelvie Intermediate School.  "Travel down the rabbit hole and join Alice, one of literature’s most beloved heroines, in her madcap adventures.  Featuring updated songs from Disney’s thrilling animated motion picture, Disney’s Alice in Wonderland JR. is a fast-paced take on the classic tale."  The showtimes are Friday 5/12 at 7 pm or Saturday 5/13 at 1 and 6 pm.  Pre-order tickets for the show HERE.

HOOPS FOR HOUNDS
Are you ready for this year's staff basketball game?  The McKelvie Community Action Team has been working hard to prepare for the event and the staff here at McKelvie has already begun to practice their dribbling skills.  Click HERE for all of the information and we will see you at the BHS gym on Thursday, May 11th!

Math Excel Testing - ACTION ITEM
Excel Math placement testing will be occurring soon.  If you are interested in having your 5th grade student take this assessment, please click this link to learn more about the Excel program and to download the permission slip.  All slips are due back to their math teachers by Wednesday, May 17th.

Dress Code
Schools across the country struggle with a balanced approach to student dress.  We are not immune to this problem.  While schools use the guideline of “no shorter than 4” above the knee” - we know this is a challenging standard given available styles.  Office referrals will be for a pattern of behavior after warnings have been given.  If students are wearing clothing with inappropriate pictures/words, or if cleavage, bellies, or buttocks are showing, this is inappropriate attire.

Grandparents’ Day
Please join us on Friday, May 19th for Grandparents’ Day at McKelvie!  The day begins at 9:30am with coffee and danish.  Attendees will be able to see their grandchild’s school, view some of our school play, and enjoy a performance by our Music Department.  Please RSVP to Denise Roy at royd@sau25.net
Adaptive Lacrosse Clinic
A BHS Senior, Cormac McCarthy, will be holding an Adaptive Lacrosse Clinic for students with special needs in grades K-12.  Cormac is a captain on the BHS lacrosse team and would like to share his knowledge and love for the game with Bedford students who have special needs.  The clinic will be held on Saturday, May 13th from 9:00-10:00 AM on the BHS turf field (BHS gym, if raining).  There will be adult supervisors and BHS student coaches present.  Please take a look at THIS FLYER for more information.  If you have any questions, and to RSVP (by May 12th), please email Cormac McCarthy at 9956565@bedfordnhk12.net.  (Please provide your child's name and grade.)
