Camp Invention
Does your child like to take things apart and design, color and create? Are you interested in unlocking your child's potential this summer?  Camp Invention may be a great fit.  This year's camp will be held at McKelvie School July 10 - July 14 from 8:30 am - 3:00 pm. Camp Invention is the only nationally acclaimed summer enrichment day experience for children entering grades K through 6th taught by certified teachers. Here's a sneak peek at what's in store for this year’s camp. https://youtu.be/9OiFeEzgJwA.  Click here to register online, or here to view their paper flyer. You can save $15 by registering on or before May 1st with the promo code DISCOVER15.  If you have any questions, please contact the director, Courtney Cheetham at cheethac@gmail.com.

From the Library
This week the 5th and 6th graders had an opportunity to select their favorite 2017 Great Stone Face Nominee. Students statewide, in grades 4-6, have an opportunity to vote during National Library Week. Here at McKelvie we voted via a Google Form ballot. The McKelvie winner will be announced next week. The statewide winner will be announced after May 5th. Stay tuned and be sure to ask your child next week what nominee received the most votes at McKelvie. The winner will be announced Monday afternoon and will also be posted on the library homepage under the "Great Stone Face" tab.

Upcoming PTG Event:
Save the date for our annual spring "Year in Review, Coffee with the Principals” on May 9th @ 9:30a.m. at BCTV.

Volunteers Needed for Stand By Me:
Lurgio Middle School is hosting the 28th year of Stand By Me on Friday, May 19th @ SNHU. This event, for all seventh grade students and their parents, is in need of volunteers. Since 7th grade families are participating in the event we are looking for volunteers from other grades to help. This is a great event and volunteering is good way to get a sneak peek at what it’s all about. Various shifts and volunteer opportunities are available. Click here for more information or to sign up. Thank you!

Q3 Excessive, Tardy, Dismissal Letters
As you know, each quarter we send out letters to families of students who have in excess of 6 tardies, absences, or dismissals.  We do keep track of illnesses and circumstances that are beyond the control of a family, but do not always know in every case.  Please keep this in mind if you receive one and your family has a special circumstance.

Smarter Balanced State Assessment - Coming in May
We will begin our testing when we return from April vacation.
Week of May 1 - 6th grade testing
Week of May 8 - 5th grade testing
We have 3 requests:
  • Students will need a pair of earbuds Monday – Friday. The teachers will keep them safe.
  • Please make sure your child has a healthy breakfast.
  • A good night’s rest is also helpful.
The assessment is not meant to add anxiety.  Students should simply do their best and know that we are behind them 100%.

2017-18 Calendar
As families start planning for next year, we thought it would be helpful to share the 2017-18 School Calendar. The first day of school for students is Tuesday, August 29
