10/21/16

Dear McKelvie Families ~

It’s time to start thinking about sending your kids to school as a superhero on Monday.  Mrs. Asdot and I plan on being Clark Kent and Supergirl.  And - while you are thinking about costumes, the students CAN dress up on Halloween so long as they do not use gorey masks, blood, or weapons.  Below are this week’s updates.

Please join us for “Continue the Conversation” on Tuesday, October 25th from 6:30pm to 7:30pm at McKelvie.  Our special guest speaker is Diane Vaccarello, owner and therapist at Bedford Family Therapy.  Diane will be focusing on how to speak with children about drugs and alcohol as well as its impact on the preadolescent brain.  Mrs. Vaccarello will be joined by Sara Cassin, Health Educator and McKelvie School Counselors, Priscilla McGinty and Jodi Parsons.  Target audience: Parents of children in grades 4-6.

From the McKelvie Library
Have you ever heard from your child, "Mom and Dad I need help finding information for a project!" If you have ever heard this, be sure to visit the McKelvie Library's Digital Resources page. By navigating to the McKelvie homepage and clicking on the "Library" tab, you will then see a tab titled "Digital Resources." If you scroll down, each of the resources has a link next to the resource image. The Username (ID) and Password for all of these resources will be the same. The Username: mckelvie (not case sensitive) & Password: 03110. We have many relevant, appropriate, and current resources that are available to you remotely. These resources include articles, eBooks, videos, and images. Many of the resources also will "read" to you. This is a great feature for the population of students who are auditory learners. Do not forget to have your child cite his/her sources using the MLA format and as always be sure to check in to see what your child is viewing online!
