10/14/16

Dear McKelvie Families ~

You may have heard that the students want me to swim with sharks if they meet our Move-a-thon goal of $40,000.  Unfortunately, I am going to take a pass on this for now.  Click HERE to see why.

Chipotle Results - WOW!
A HUGE thank you to everyone who supported our Chipotle event on Wednesday!  McKelvie earned $2011.13 in just four hours!

Dr. Lee Morin - Astronaut Visit
We had an outstanding assembly on Thursday.  Dr. Lee Morin spent 50 minutes presenting a slide show to our students.  The slides included the International Space Station, his spacewalks, and the work he is currently doing on the Orion Project.  Dr. Morin (who, btw, was accepted to NYU’s MD/PhD Program) also answered student questions and provided insight into the future of NASA.

Grade 5 Science NECAP Results
Families of 5th grade students will be receiving their child’s Science NECAP scores via USPS in the next day or two.  This assessment was administered in the spring of your child’s 4th grade year.

From the Library
The 6th "Golden Ticket" has been located! Congratulations to Paige Zimmerman, a 5th grade student here are McKelvie. She came to the library looking for a book on Tuesday, October 12th. Not only did she leave with a great read but she also received a $5.00 gift card to put towards a new book at Barnes & Noble. Keep on reading, Paige! There are only 4 more "Golden Tickets" left.

Many classes have come into the library to discuss "Good Fit" books and to book shop. Be sure to ask your child if his/her class has come to the library to talk about how books and shoes are related. Many of the books on the tables next to the various sized shoes are new acquisitions. It has been a pleasure to help connect students to books! Here is a picture of what classes have found when they walk into the library find a "good fit" book.
