9.25.21 Principal Notes

 Dear McKelvie Families~

There are a few important updates in this week's notes.  Enjoy your weekend!

Important Dates:
10/11/21-No School: Columbus Day
10/12/21-No School: Teacher Workshop Day
10/22/21-School Picture Retake Day

Devious Lick Challenge:
We still have students vandalizing the school by taking apart soap dispensers and throwing them in the toilets. Please talk with your child about not participating in TikTok challenges, especially those that are harmful or cause damage.

Lunch/Breakfast Information:
Lunch and breakfast are free for students this year, but not everything that is available in the cafe is free.  Please see the following information from our kitchen to clarify what is included with the free breakfast and lunch, and what is not included.

FREE BREAKFAST includes...
1 ... *ENTREE with a FRUIT
*(NOTE: Entree Whole Grain item with/without a Meat Alternative)
1 ... JUICE Cup (4oz) 100% juice
1 ... MILK

FREE LUNCH includes...
1 ... *ENTREE(Grain & Meat/Meat Alternative) with a VEGETABLE
*(NOTE: Entree Featured Entree on menu or one Alternate Entree Choices)
1-2 ... FRUIT(s)
1 ... 2nd VEGETABLE
1 ... MILK

STUDENTS NEED TO PAY for ...
WATER Bottles ($.50 each)
100% JUICE Pouch (8oz) ($.75 each)
*MILK Carton ($.50 each
*(NOTE: one milk comes with a lunch/breakfast, but is NOT FREE if the student is getting two(2) milks with lunch/breakfast OR simply buying a drink to go with their lunch/breakfast from home.)

SNACK PROGRAM @ MIS ...
We have a range of whole grain snacks available to the students at McKelvie. These items are NOT included with the free lunch and will cost money. The cost will range anywhere from $.50 ~ $1.25 each, depending on the item. 

2nd BREAKFAST @ MIS ...
Some students are getting 2nd breakfast meals. Please NOTE that only one(1) meal is free and the second breakfast will cost them $2.00.

2nd ENTREE @ MIS ...
Some days, if time/supplies allow, we will offer a student a "2nd Entree" only...NOT a second meal. This second entree will typically cost the student $2.25.


IF a student does not have enough money on their account, they will not be allowed to purchase any of the a la carte items listed above. 

Library News:
Happy fall! It is official, all of our new books are either on display or in the hands of our McKelvie community. There is nothing like the smell and crackling of glue in the spines when newly acquired books are opened. Destination Imagination:
The Bedford School District is proud to offer Destination Imagination (Bedford DI) as an extra curricular program in all of our schools. Registration is now open and anyone interested should complete the application here.  For more information on What is DI/Covid-19 guidelines, please check https://bit.ly/3tSLQnR. Registration closes October 1.

We couldn’t do it without your continued support. Please consider making a donation to the PTG either via the PayPal link HERE or send in a check payable to Bedford PTG in the support envelopes that have been sent home (K-8) or an envelope labeled with your name and email address (turn into your child’s school or mail to PO Box 10077 Bedford, NH). 100% of your donation through the Support Drive goes directly to the schools and students of Bedford.

LOOKING TO VOLUNTEER: Please complete a Volunteer Google Form for each school you have a child attending. To access the form click McKelvie Volunteer Form or you can find them on the PTG website www.bedfordptg.org under PTG Forms. You need to fill this form out in order to hear about volunteer opportunities at the schools or district wide.

PTG COMMUNITY EVENT VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY:

Color Blast Fun Run Committee: Get in on the colorful fun and be part of planning this amazing community event!! Color Blast is looking for anyone that might be interested in being part of the planning committee. The committee meets monthly starting in October and more frequently closer to the event which is scheduled for Sunday, May 22nd.

NEW FAMILY WELCOME: If you recently moved to Bedford or are sending your first child to a Bedford School, you're welcome to attend Bedford School District's New Family Welcome hosted by the Bedford PTG on Wed., September 29th, from 9:30-10:30 a.m. or 6:30-7:30 p.m., at the Bedford Town Library.

Representatives from each school will be available to answer questions, provide school and town information, share opportunities on how you can be involved and welcome you into our community.
