9.03.21 Principal Notes

Dear McKelvie Families~

The first full week of school went off without a hitch!  Kids are really getting back into the swing of a normal school year, and we are so proud of how well they are doing!  I hope you all enjoy the long holiday weekend!

Information about Intramurals can be found below.  Intramurals tend to be movement based and/or athletic in nature.  Information about clubs will be put in next week's Principal Notes.  Clubs are geared towards specific skills or activities that are generally not as physical, such as Art Club and Safe Sitters Club.

Important Dates:
9/6/21-No School Labor Day
9/13/21-School Picture Day

AM Drop Off Reminders:
  • All students are dropped off in the front of the building in the morning.
  • Pull all the way up in front of the school building before letting students out of your car.
  • Please don't allow kids out of your vehicle until the duty teacher on the sidewalk indicates that it is safe to do so.

PM Pickup Reminders:
  • 5th grade parent pickup at the canopy on Country Road.
  • 6th grade parents pickup at the main entrance on Liberty Hill Road.
  • If a student is going to be parent pick up they need to bring in a note stating they are parent pickup.
  • The note can state that the child will be parent pick up for the school year.

McKelvie School Picture Day:
Monday, September 13th is school picture day!  Please click HERE for the Geskus flyer to order school photos!

Intramurals:
McKelvie Intramurals are back!  We have four fantastic opportunities  for your child to get involved at McKelvie during our first quarter.  Please look over THIS DOCUMENT with the descriptions of what is being offered.  Due to high demand, we do have a limit of the number of students who are able to participate each quarter.  First quarter intramural sign-ups will open on Wednesday, September 8th at 7:00p.m.  Please note that if your child is put on the waitlist, they will be automatically placed in the intramural for the 2nd quarter.  You will be notified within a couple of days if your child is in.  Please direct any questions to Amy Francis at francisa@sau25.net

Chorus: Tuesday OR Thursday 8:00am September-May starting the week of Sept 13th
Chorus meets at 8:00am on Tuesdays for 6th Grade and Thursdays for 5th Grade. Students should arrive in the cafeteria by 7:55am. Mrs. Coughlin will escort the students from the cafeteria to the music room for rehearsal. We have two mandatory concerts a year; one on Dec 10th and one on May 6th.

Students should have a 1” black three ring binder to hold their music. Given CDC suggestions, it is HIGHLY advised that singers wear the singing masks that will be handed out in rehearsal. Students need to bring their binder of music and singing mask to every rehearsal.

Please use this link to register for Chorus at McKelvie.
Email Mrs. Coughlin at coughlinr@sau25.net if you have any questions.

I look forward to seeing everyone soon!

Rebecca Coughlin

Piano Accompanist Needed:

Have you always wanted to find a way to volunteer in the school but wasn’t sure how or your time was limited? The Chorus at McKelvie is looking for a piano accompanist who can accompany the 5th, 6th and Select Choruses at the Winter and Spring Concerts. We meet Tuesday, Thursday and Friday before school. Attending every rehearsal is not mandatory (but we really need you as the concert gets closer.). And, as if being part of these amazing groups wasn’t incentive enough, there is also a stipend and a t-shirt!!

If you are interested, please email Rebecca Coughlin, for more information: coughlinr@sau25.net

If you’d like to make a donation, simply click on the PayPal link HERE or send in a check payable to Bedford PTG in the support envelopes that have been sent home (K-8) or an envelope labeled with your name and email address (turn into your child’s school or mail to PO Box 10077 Bedford, NH). 100% of your donation through the Support Drive goes directly to the schools and students of Bedford.

LOOKING TO VOLUNTEER: Please complete a Volunteer Google Form for each school you have a child attending. To access the form click  McKelvie Volunteer Form or you can find them on the PTG website www.bedfordptg.org under PTG Forms. You need to fill this form out in order to hear about volunteer opportunities at the schools or district wide.

We will also be hosting a Volunteer Orientation Breakfast on Wednesday, Sept 15th, at 9:30 AM, in the McKelvie cafeteria. Come grab a bite to eat and hear all about what opportunities are available for you to be involved with our school as a volunteer. Opportunities range from one-time events to recurring activities both in-school and out-of-school. Hope to see you then!

MEET THE PRINCIPALS EVENT SEPTEMBER 24TH:  You are invited to meet the Principals from all six schools at our annual "Meet the Principals" event on Friday, September 24th from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. It will also be broadcast live on BCTV. This is a great opportunity to hear what each school has in store for the year. Please email questions before Sept. 22 for the Q&A session that follows the presentation to bedfordnhptg@gmail.com.

Have a great weekend!
