5.8.20 Principal Notes

Dear Families~

Thank you for all of the kind messages and wonderful pictures you sent in for Teacher Appreciation Week! These past several weeks have been incredibly challenging, and our teachers have really risen to the occasion in order to continue to educate our kids. HERE is the slideshow that was sent to teachers.

I would also like to thank all of you for the incredible amount support you are giving your children in a Remote Learning environment. This has been quite a challenge, and our McKelvie families have gone above and beyond to make it work.  Thank you!

A Note to Chorus Families from Mrs. Coughlin:
As I'm sure you know, the Spring Concert will not be taking place. I'm sad about this as all the performing groups worked very hard on their music. We were excited to be able to perform for you.

Because I will not see the students in person again before the end of the year, I need to have the chorus music returned. This includes Tuesday, Thursday, Select and those of you in Honors Chorus. The music I need to collect is numbered and looks like a little book. Please have your child check their binders for this music. If you are not sure, let me know, as I have it documented what number music the students have.

Music return will be the same day as the Library book return. I hope this makes it easier for you. That day is May 15th. Please see this letter for instructions on how to return the music.

Library Book Return Day:
McKelvie, the time has come to return your library books (not textbooks just yet)! On Friday, May 15th, we will begin collecting library books. Be sure to check your Destiny library account to see what books are checked out to you. HERE is a detailed letter regarding the library book return process. Thank you for your support. The books and I miss you! ~Mrs. Cote

BSD Breakfast & Lunch:
Please note that the district will not be providing breakfast and lunch at BHS on Memorial Day, Monday, May 25th.

Playground Access:
Our district is staying in compliance with the Town of Bedford regarding playgrounds, in order to limit the spread of the COVID-19 virus. As such, we are asking that students DO NOT come to our playgrounds.

Library News:
Breaking news from the Bedford Public Library! Please click HERE to read additional information. This will certainly benefit our McKelvie readers. I am so grateful to have such an amazing resource in town.

Students in grades 4-6 statewide, who have read/listened to 2 or more nominees, are encouraged to participate. Many of the McKelvie students were actively reading through this list! McKelvie students will be able to cast their ONE vote for their favorite nominee via a Google Form ballot. This form/ballot will be found under the "Great Stone Face" tab at the very bottom of the page. It can also be found on the Destiny homepage under "Announcements." An additional reminder regarding voting will be sent out the week before voting closes. The winner will be announced soon. Stay tuned!

HERE is a link to the Google Slides presentation I adapted to serve as a reminder of the current nominees. This can also be found on the "GSF" tab from the McKelvie Library homepage.

I continue to add new titles to our school library. Although they are print books, these will be available for check out when school commences again. There is nothing like the smell and feel of a new book! Click HERE to see a few new additions.

Happy Mother's Day to all of the McKelvie moms! Enjoy your special day. ~ Mrs. Cote

Have a terrific weekend!
Jen Asdot
