9.1.17

Dear McKelvie Families ~

I hope this communication finds you well and adjusting to a new school year.  With all of the preparations leading up to our start, I am happy to report that both staff and students seem to have adjusted rather well.  I am proud of our school and look forward to a positive and productive academic year!

Each week I will send home a communication that provides you with (hopefully) all of the information you need to be “in the know” at McKelvie.  You will receive these each Friday at 5:30pm.  Below are this week’s updates:

Mindfulness
McKelvie is privileged to have 6 staff members who participated in a mindfulness training this past summer with Mindful Schools. Success students, 6th grade music students, as well as students in Mrs. Lovering and Mrs. Waldman's pods will be exposed to mindful practice with these teachers. Students in the Donahue/ Oliveira/ Ouellette pod, as well as the Cleghorn/Hayward pod will be exposed to mindful practice lessons with our guidance counselors. Our hope is that mindfulness practice will help students to improve focus, regulate their emotions, and become more self aware. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact these teachers or the guidance counselors.

NO SCHOOL
Just a reminder that there is NO SCHOOL on Monday, September 4th in observance of Labor Day.

School Picture Day

For weekly rehearsals, please be in the cafeteria by 7:55am. I will come to the cafeteria to bring your child to chorus.  Please be prompt in your drop off.  Students should have a black 3 ring binder to keep their music in. Students should bring their binder/music with them to ALL rehearsals.

From the Library
It was wonderful to see so many new and returning readers come to the McKelvie Library during our first 4 days of school! The students who visited were thrilled about the 144 new book acquisitions to our library over the summer! It was great to see their smiles as they viewed the new releases.

Right before the first day of school, we again placed 10 "Golden Tickets" inside the pages of various books in the McKelvie Library. This was done as a fun way to get the students to look at books and encourage checkout. Students, be sure to read and look for the "Golden Tickets" when you visit the McKelvie Library!  ~Mrs. Cote
