12/22/16

Dear McKelvie Families ~

This week’s update is filled with some pictures and good news notes.  I wish all of you a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, and Happy Holiday!  I look forward to our return to school on Tuesday, January 3, 2017!

Lost & Found
A quick reminder that all items in the Lost & Found will be donated over Winter Break.  Feel free to stop by and check out the selection.  Items will be held here until December 30th.

McKelvie Spelling Bee Winner!
Congratulations to all the participants of the 10th annual Spelling Bee! On Tuesday, seventeen  fifth- and sixth-grade students  competed  on the stage in front of families and classmates. The runner-up was Abhinav Vadali from Mrs. Kelly's class.  Joseph Mendenhall, a student in Mr. Donahue's class, is McKelvie School's winner. He will represent our school at the statewide spelling bee in Concord in February. Good luck to Joseph!

From the Library
Season's Readings from the MIS Library! I just wanted to take a moment to wish you all a happy and healthy holiday season. Cherish the time with your family and child(ren) and enjoy all the magic that the holidays bring. Be sure to take some time to curl up with a good book! Here is a picture looking into the library from the hall. Remember, reading is a gift that lasts a lifetime!
Warmly, Mrs. Cote 📚

New McKelvie Signage
After receiving feedback that finding the Main Entrance can be a challenge, we finally installed a sign at McKelvie!  A BIG thank you to Guidance Secretary, Leanne Gould for acting as “Project Manager” for us.  Click HERE or drive by to check it out! Funds from last year’s school directory were used to help make this happen.

Fire Truck Ride to School
Congratulations to  Nathaniel Barrett and Dylan Vilela on their Fire Truck ride to school this week.  Also - a HUGE thank you to our Bedford Fire Department for partnering with us!  Click HERE to see their photo.

Bottle Flipping - A Science Lesson
A BIG thanks to Mrs. Kelly for making a lesson out of this national craze!  How much water is better to get the bottle to land correctly.  Click HERE to see this COOL video.  Watch to the end!

Holiday Spirit
Great minds think alike.  Check out how Ellie Ludwig and Mrs. Kelliher dressed for Wacky Day.  Click HERE to see the pic.

Ski NH Snow Passports
4th and 5th grade students are eligible for a passport booklet containing vouchers for lift tickets and trail passes in New Hampshire.  Click HERE for more information.

Parent Portal Quirk
When students/parents log into the PowerSchool portal, the achievement grade (Q1-Q4) for Success and Support classes displays as a zero; however, the actual grade is blank as students are not being graded on achievement in these classes. Unfortunately, this is a feature of the software that cannot be modified. When the report card is printed/viewed, the achievement grade will show as a blank.

From the PTG
Happy Holidays from the Bedford PTG! Have a safe and wonderful vacation.
See you in 2017!

In Previous News...

Earbud Purchase Option
With the introduction of 1:1 Chromebooks this year, students were asked to bring in a pair of inexpensive headphones/earbuds to leave at school. Because many students have forgotten to bring them in, they will now have an option to purchase a pair of inexpensive earbuds (similar in quality to what you would purchase on a plane) from the library for $1.
