Dear McKelvie Families ~

This has been a whirlwind of a week at school!  We have had a Science Expo, Writing Celebration, Field Day, Mel's, and multiple activities for students to show off their work, enjoy a unique activity (Cheoluminescence - grade 6), and enjoy the last few days of school.  Next week is bound to be filled with assemblies, units wrapping-up, and yearbook signing.  Below are this week's updates:

FITNESSGRAMS, the Annual Fitness Assessment Reports from the Physical Education Teachers, will be distributed to your child onWednesday, June 15th.  Due to the fact that paper Report Cards are not being sent home, the FITNESSGRAMS will be sent home separate.  The blue report may be coming home in the "Report Card " envelopes.

Note from the Nurse's Office
If you have medications in the nurse's office(Inhalers, pills, epi pens), please pick them up prior to the end of school on Weds. 6/15.  You may call Nurse Ruby to make other arrangements, otherwise they will be disposed of at the end of the last day.  If you are a parent of a 5th grader and you have gotten a recent email from Nurse Ruby, please be sure you turn in your child's updated immunizations or valid exemption prior to start of 6th grade.  This is a state requirement if your child turns eleven prior to start of 6th grade.

School Lunch Price Increase - NOTICE
We want to make sure families are aware that we need to increase prices of school lunches for the coming year.  For the 2016-17 school year, elementary lunch will cost $2.65 and middle and high school lunch will cost $3.25.

On behalf of Girl Scout Troop #10986We would like to inform you of the consequences of idling.   1) It wastes gas.  Leaving your car on for 20 minutes a day at parent pick-up wastes 2/3 a gallon of gas each week.   2) It wastes money.   This is approximately $6 a month.   3) The exhaust causes cancer and asthma.  Windows are sometimes open in the warmer months at school and some classes breathe in the exhaust from the cars in line.  4)  The emissions pollute our environment causing additional long-term harm.  Hydrocarbons produce smog and Nitrogen Oxide causes acid rain, which in turn kills trees and pollutes drinking water. Please consider turning off your car when waiting in line.

Four Way Stops on County Road to Continue
The intersections at Nashua Road and County Road in front of Bedford High School and at Liberty Hill Road and County Road in front of McKelvie School
will remain 4-way stop intersections through the end of the school year.  On
May 25, Bedford Police Department met with the school district, the
Department of Public Works and our engineering consultant and decided to extend the temporary change.  More information can be found at the Bedford Police Department website.

Tree Clearing and Other Summer Construction Projects
The Bedford School District completes significant maintenance projects every summer.   McKelvie is having an older section of roof replaced and getting an upgrade to two student bathrooms in need of replacement.  At Peter Woodbury, the parking lot is being replaced and traffic flow is being reconfigured.  You may notice this project in late June or early July when the trees in front of Peter Woodbury are removed to make way for theexpanded parking lot.
