9/18/15

Dear McKelvie Families ~

This week I read a wonderful blog that resonated with me as a dad (and Principal).  Often times, we can lose our center and require some anchoring in our thinking.  While I personally agree with the author's thoughts, you may not.  That is okay.  Whatever you believe, the blog is poignant and beautifully written.  Click here to check it out.

Polite & to the Right Winners
Congratulations!

A FUN picture
Our kids are always doing special things that make us smile.  This week, Kaleigh Slozak wore a cool t-shirt to Physical Education.  Click here for the picture.  If you cannot see the words, it says: "This is my handstand shirt." Cute.

McKelvie Move-a-thon
The Move-A-Thon kick off occurred today.  Your child should come home with exciting information (bright green packet of paper!) regarding this event, our school's only fundraiser.  Student registration occurs on the McKelvie website.  The registration link "opens" at 7pm tonight/Friday (there are some Move-A-Thon events that will close once they are at capacity).  If you wish to order a Move-A-Thon t-shirt, the green t-shirts order forms will be accepted at McKelvie until Wednesday, September 30th.  This year's Move-A-Thon funds will be used to purchase additional chrome books for classroom use, create an outdoor classroom, and support our school's PTG.  More information regarding the Move-A-Thon can be found on the McKelvie website.

School Directory
Keep your eyes on the look out for a McKelvie School Directory.  We have a few amazing volunteers who will be coordinating this process.  More information to come!

K-Z Dismissal
Just a reminder to always pull ahead when picking up at the Canopy side of the building. Think of it like the toll booths on 93 after a holiday weekend.  Everyone gets through, it just takes a few minutes.  Prior to blocking the entrance, please:
A.  Pull ahead
B.  Park in the Visitor Parking
C.  Pull around and park in the back of the building

McKelvie READ Project - Update
We are excited to announce that all staff and students will be participating in a whole school read each morning (9-9:30) from September 28 through October 9!  This year we will read the novel Fish in a Tree by Lynda Mullaly Hunt.  Students do not need the book to participate as teachers will be reading aloud. However, if your child would prefer to be able to follow along, feel free to purchase the book as we will not provide copies for each student. Please help make this program a success by getting your child to school on time so that he or she does not miss any of the read aloud.  We highly encourage you to click HERE to learn more about the READ Project! Questions can be directed to Lee Webb at: webbl@sau25.net.

Math and Reading Support
Permission slips for our support programs in math and reading were mailed this week to families of invited students.  We have the opportunity to provide extra help several times each week to many students!  Please return your permission slip as soon as possible.  Questions about Math Support can be directed to Maria Rocco (roccom@sau25.net), Math Tutor.  For reading questions, contact Lee Webb (webbl@sau25.net), Reading Specialist. Both can be reached at 472-3951 x2249.

Shopping Rewards
It's that time a year again to help earn money for our school. There are several ways to do this. It's easy, just clip box tops or labels for education on participating products such as soup and goldfish bags and send them into your school. Other ways to earn money for our school are Hannafords Rewards and Target Rewards. At Hannaford, buy 4 participating products and you will get 3 reward dollars for the school. Take the reward certificate and drop it in the provided box with the school's name before you leave the store. At Target, you can link your credit or debit REDcard on the Target website for the school and every time you use them 1% is given back to the school.  Questions can be directed to Stephanie Richard at spare111778@aol.com
