Students: this is your last weekend to collect sponsors for the Move-A-Thon. Get out there and fill your sponsor sheet. For every $10 raised you will get a raffle ticket for a chance to win a basket of your choice. Some of the baskets you could win this year include: cool science with a gift card to Hobby Lobby, sports basket with a gift card to Dick’s Sporting Goods, and the opportunity to have lunch delivered at McKelvie from Panera or Chipotle. Check out the basket display outside of the café for a sampling of some of the prizes being offered this year!

The 5th and 6th grade homeroom raising the highest money as of Monday 10/22 will earn a pancake breakfast served by your school principals.

The Move-A-Thon is this Thursday, October 24th. Students can begin to bring in their equipment for the Move-A-Thon any day this week. Students who are on the track using either a scooter, ripstick, or skateboard need to bring in their wheeled item, as well as a helmet. Students who will be rollerblading will need to also bring in knee pads and wrist guards in order to participate in this event.

Red Ribbon Week:
Red Ribbon Week is October 23rd - 31st and McKelvie school is participating! This year’s theme is: “Send a Message. Stay Drug Free.” At school, students will engage in activities that promote a drug free and healthy lifestyle - wearing RED on Tuesday, signing the Red Ribbon pledge, and sporting red bracelets. At home, discuss this topic with your child(ren), and set clear rules about not using illegal drugs. Click HERE for information about how to safeguard and dispose of prescription drugs in your home.

Library News:
Thank you to Mr. Robinson who has helped orchestrate Holiday Cards for our Military Challenge. Many students have taken advantage of the cards, directions, and letter box to help support this wonderful cause. Click HERE to see the area I set up in the library for students to write holiday cards to individuals who serve our country. Letters written have been collected in the locked box! The McKelvie students are surely going to bring smiles to many faces during the holidays.

The McKelvie library has been a busy place for research too! Click HERE to see students using our print and digital resources to find out information about "early man."

Have a great fall weekend! ~Mrs. Cote

MIS Kitchen News:
The breakfast program will be featuring a delicious and nutritious Very Cherry Smoothie! Loaded with sweet dark cherries, fresh bananas and protein packed vanilla Greek yogurt. This smoothie provides some impressive health benefits with powerful fighting antioxidants and anti- inflammatory compounds. It's also filled with fiber which helps fuel our beneficial gut bacteria. In addition, a tasty, fresh baked from scratch cinnamon pear muffin will be offered at breakfast.
The hot lunch program has some great new meals and healthy recipes. On Tuesday, 10/22, the kitchen will be preparing a fall themed recipe of Apple Cheddar Couscous Salad. We'll be using crisp and delicious local Brookdale Farm apples and organic grass fed cheddar cheese from Brookford Farm. On Wednesday, 10/23, creamy and delicious homemade mac 'n cheese is on the menu. Lastly, on Friday, 10/25, we'll have honey glazed meatballs with our own sweet and savoy sauce of tamari, honey, garlic & ginger using local Pineland Farm meatballs. We'll pair it with hearty brown rice, roasted edamame, fresh green beans and seasoned corn.

Crotched Mountain Ski Program:
The Crotched Mountain ski program is back for 2019-20! For just $149, students can ski on five Fridays starting Friday, January 3rd, and this year they do not have to head to the ticket windows to pick up passes - they can just show and go (with a valid pass). On February 18th, they will be eligible to receive a pass for the remainder of the season at 7 mountains including Mount Snow, Attitash, and Wildcat!

Lessons and equipment rentals are optional and transportation is not provided by the program. The $149 rate is valid until December 18.
