10.12.18 Principal's Notes

Dear McKelvie Families~

What a busy week it has been here at McKelvie!   Just a reminder, picture retake day is next week, on  October 17th.  There are a lot of important notes this week!

Support the Move-A-Thon and Eat at Chipotle!
Save the date! On Monday, October22, 2018, plan to join your family and friends for dinner at Chipotle. A portion of the proceeds from dinner served between 4-8pm will be donated the McKelvie Move-A-Thon. Let your server know that you are dining to support McKelvie School. The promotion flyer is HERE.

McKelvie Move-A-Thon:

We have great prizes for Move-A-Thon fundraising!! We will be making announcements to the students, but here are some of the highlights.

The 5th grade and 6th-grade homerooms that turn in the most money next week (between 10/15-10/19) will be treated to a pancake breakfast prepared by McKelvie Principals.
The 5th grade and 6th-grade homeroom raising the highest amount of money for this year will be treated to a yummy treat.
The top 5 fundraisers for each grade level will get to choose from amazing prizes like a limo ride home from school, a police car ride to school, a new Chromebook, or a box suite for an event at the Southern NH Arena.
For every $10 a student raises in sponsorship money, they receive a raffle ticket to place in a raffle drawing of their choice. Raffle baskets include a ski basket, reading basket, gaming basket, climbing basket, the option to have a lunch delivered at school by a local restaurant, and many other wonderful prizes!  This weekend will be a great time to start raising funds for the Move-A-Thon!

McKelvie Kitchen News:
The McKelvie kitchen has a healthy and delicious new recipe on the menu for next week. To go along with the chilly fall weather, vitamin rich homemade soup help to boost the immune system and warm the soul! On Thursday the 18th we will be serving new authentic ramen noodle bowls! Build your own bowl with chicken, ramen noodles, steamed carrots, broccoli, baby corn and edamame topped with our own rich and savory broth, bean sprouts, celery, thai basil, scallions and hoisin or a chili garlic sauce! Come try our new and exciting full flavored recipe that is just what our students need to nourish their minds and bodies!

Tripod Student Surveys:
Starting next week, McKelvie will administer the "Tripod Survey" to students in grades 5 and 6.  The survey is academic and asks for the students' perspectives on our teaching practices. The purpose is to use this feedback to help our professional staff continue to improve. The survey is anonymous, optional and voluntary for students. Click HERE for additional information on the Tripod Survey.  If you do not want your child to participate please email ASAP, as surveys go out to students beginning Monday.

Student Council Spirit Day:
McKelvie’s Student Council will be sponsoring a Halloween costume day on Halloween, Wednesday, October 31st. Please be sure that you wear a school appropriate costume.  Get ready to show your McKelvie spirit!

Holiday Cards for Troops: WE NEED BLANK CARDS!!
Holiday Cards for Our Troops -- Last year, McKelvie students and families joined thousands of other families in surrounding towns in a grass-roots effort to send a holiday greeting card to every deployed sailor aboard a U.S. aircraft carrier. McKelvie contributed about 700 cards to the over 17,000 cards that were collected.  This year, Holiday Cards 4 Our Military-NH Challenge seeks to send 5,000 cards to deployed members of each of the 5 military branches, and we know McKelvie can help meet that goal.  Between now and October 15, families are invited to dig out your leftover cards from last year, with or without envelopes, and send them to school.  During the week of October 15-19, our students will write greetings to deployed service members in these cards and in homemade cards with their homerooms. You may contact Mr. Robinson for more information: robinsong@sau25.net.

Library News:
Our Before-School Book Club has started!  Thank you to all who have decided to participate as we begin The Losers Club by Andrew Clements.

This week two “Golden Tickets” were found in McKelvie Library books! Click HERE and HERE to see the “Golden Tickets” and the prizes awarded.  Congrats to Rachel and Emmy.  Happy book shopping and reading!

This is a friendly reminder to protect library books from water and snacks.  Please encourage your child(ren) to transport his/her library book(s) to and from school using a plastic bag.  This does not need to be a fancy bag.  We have had several books damaged by liquids. Rain and water bottles are common themes. I appreciate your help with this very much!
Have a wonderful weekend! ~Mrs. Cote
