Dear McKelvie Families ~

It must be March in New Hampshire as snow is falling right now!  I hope you and your family have adjusted well to the school routine.  I know that our teachers and students are working hard as April vacation will be here sooner than we know.  There are a few additional pieces to my notes this week.  BHS is deep into their Senior Projects.  As a result, many high school students ask to access our notes.  Those items are marked with an *.  Below are this week’s updates:

Information

Please Vote next Tuesday - March 14
All eligible citizens are urged to vote in the Bedford School District and Town Council Elections.  They will be held on March 14, 2017 from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM in the Bedford High School Gymnasium.  The Town Meeting is the next night, March 15th, in the Bedford High School Theater at 7:00 PM.  HERE is the Bedford School Board’s Voter Guide, and HERE is the information for filing an absentee ballot for those unable to be present on the day of the vote.

Gordon Korman Review
Our visit by author Gordon Korman was a huge success!  Mr. Korman delivered a presentation to each grade level, worked with some small groups, and had some time to talk with teachers about his writing process and working with students.  His after school presentation was a wonderful launch of the third book of the Masterminds series. Mr. Korman was delighted by his visit to McKelvie and the passion and energy of the students and staff.  He said that he goes on a lot of school visits and that this was an extraordinary school visit!  We feel the same way about having him come to our school.  Many thanks to the Bedford PTG and the Bedford Men's Club for sponsoring this event, and to Gibson's bookstore for collaborating with us on book sales!  Follow the links to see several photos from the day.

Kids Vote 2017
If your family elects to vote on Tuesday, there will be a Kid’s Vote for McKelvie students too!  Students will be voting on a Spirit Day.

The Mathemagician is Coming!
On Wednesday, March  29, the 5th grade looks forward to welcoming Dennis Regling, the Math Magician, to McKelvie. Students will attend one of two morning assemblies as Mr. Regling presents a curriculum-based, fun assembly. The 5th-grade thanks the Bedford PTG for supporting and sponsoring this event.

Students will learn a small number of american kenpo techniques as well as a basic kenpo mentality by working with each other and learning from examples given. These lessons are meant for students with no martial arts experience. There will be approximately 10 students per class. Click HERE to register.

*Art Supplies Donation
As a part of her senior project, Julie Vyhanek, a student at Bedford High School, is accepting donations of new/lightly used art supplies to be donated to the Elliot Hospital for Art Therapy.  A donation box will be placed outside of our main office if you would like to contribute.  Click here for more information.
