Dear McKelvie Families ~
Happy Veteran’s Day to you and your family. I hope that this day off from school brings rest, relaxation, and a little time to reflect on the important contributions our veterans have made and continue to make on our behalf. Below are this week’s notes. A little shorter than usual.
Just a reminder that students should wear layers to school with the expectation that they will go outside for recess. Coats, hats, and mittens/gloves are encouraged. We use +/-20° (including wind chill) to make the call for indoor/outdoor recess.
Lost & Found
Our Lost and Found is beginning to look like a clearance rack. If your child has lost articles of clothing (especially sweatshirts) please stop by and check it out. We also have a wide variety of water bottles - all waiting for a home. All items will be donated to a social service agency over Winter Break.
A Move-a-thon Thank You
Thank You to Jennifer Cheifetz, owner of Gone Baking, who supplied cookies to

Move-a-thon Update: Assembly and Prizes
We are pleased to announce that the Move-A-Thon has met our goal and raised just over $40,000 this year. Thank you to community sponsors and student fundraising to make this goal possible! As promised, Mr. Fournier and Mrs. Asdot will be performing a dance number at the Move-A-Thon assembly in recognition of the student's fundraising efforts.
The Move-A-Thon assembly is scheduled for Tuesday, 11/22 at 2:15. Students will be given their "raffle tickets" the week of 11/14 for a chance to win a prize basket of their choice, winners will be announced at the assembly. (Students do not need to be present at the assembly in order to win - we will hold their prize basket for them).
Students are given 1 raffle ticket for every $10 raised. If a student is still collecting money from some final sponsors, please have all monies in by 11/14 in order to receive raffle tickets.
Q1 Report Cards
Quarter 1 Report Cards are now available as a pdf through the Parent Portal. If you are unable to access yours or require a paper copy, please contact your child’s teacher.
As you know, we are in the midst of conferences. Please know that we encourage fall conferences and hope that you will attend. If the dates and times of offerings do not meet your needs, please reach out directly to the teacher to find a mutually convenient time.
For over a decade, Bedford 5th and 6th grade students have been using Reading Street as the primary resource to teach the English Language Arts Curriculum. Given our focus on Columbia’s Writing Project, we are exploring other programs that might dovetail reading and writing more smoothly. As a result, your child may experience other Reading Programs under the direction of the classroom teacher. As always, questions can be directed to your child’s teacher, our Reading Specialist (firstname.lastname@example.org), or Curriculum Coordinator (email@example.com).
Have a great weekend,
