11/25/16

Dear McKelvie Families ~

I hope this note finds you well rested and basking in the joy of family and Thanksgiving.  I am writing this note in advance of the actual day.  However, I want you to know that I am thankful for you and for the terrific kids you send us each day.  Enjoy this weekend!

Funny Parent Notes
Every year we have notes that come in that make us laugh so hard!  Last week we had two on the same day - both from dads.  Below are the notes - enjoy!

Today, I have the privilege of waiting in the parent pick up line to pick up my child.  If I had my way, she’d be riding the bus.

Dad’s taxi will be transporting my son home from the Palace of Learning today.

Portal Grades vs. Email Updates
If you receive email updates on your child’s grades and have noticed that they did not match the PowerSchool portal, you were not imagining things!  There was a setting that we had to adjust.  This glitch should now be solved!

Grade 6 Families - Save the Date!
6th to 7th Registration Night: March 21, 6PM in the RAL Media Center
6th to 7th Parent Move Up Night: May 25, 6PM in the RAL Dining Hall

Toys for Tots
The Community Action Team is collecting new, unwrapped toys for the annual Toys for Trots Drive.  Toys can be dropped off at in the bins located across from McKelvie's main office.  Toys will be collected until December 16th
Thank you for your support of this holiday drive.

Cold Weather
Just a reminder that students should wear layers to school with the expectation that they will go outside for recess.  Coats, hats, and mittens/gloves are encouraged.  We use +/-20° (including wind chill) to make the call for indoor/outdoor recess.

Lost & Found
Our Lost and Found is beginning to look like a clearance rack.  If your child has lost articles of clothing (especially sweatshirts) please stop by and check it out. We also have a wide variety of water bottles - all waiting for a home. All items will be donated to a social service agency over Winter Break.

Yearbook - NOTICE
Please be aware that the Yearbook Club will be using photos of all students for our 2016/2017 yearbook.  If you do not want your child's photo in the yearbook, please email one of our advisors, Susan Cavanaugh (cavanaughs@sau25.net) or Deb Kelly (kellyd@sau25.net). Otherwise, every child gets in the yearbook.

Reading Trials
For over a decade, Bedford 5th and 6th grade students have been using Reading Street as the primary resource to teach the English Language Arts Curriculum.  Given our focus on Columbia’s Writing Project, we are exploring other programs that might dovetail reading and writing more smoothly.  As a result, your child may experience other Reading Programs under the direction of the classroom teacher.  As always, questions can be directed to your child’s teacher, our Reading Specialist (webbl@sau25.net), or Curriculum Coordinator (hansenc@sau25.net).
